Sexual Problems
Having a sexual problem is no reason for embarrassment or shame, it is a sensitive subject to be sure, and some are hesitant to seek help. In most cases however, treatment is successful.
Both men and women can be affected by various forms of sexual dysfunction. Complaints are more prevalent amongst young adults in the age range of twenty to thirty. Sexual problems can of course occur in older people too, this is often related to loss of health, due to the ageing process.
Sexual problems occurring in men:
- Ejaculation dysfunction
- Erection problems
- Loss of libido
Sexual problems occurring in women:
- Pain during intercourse
- Lack of sex drive
- Involuntary muscle spasm (Vaginisimus)
Research has suggested that nearly a third of us have suffered some form of sexual dysfunction in our lives.
What causes sexual dysfunction?
Sexual dysfunction can be the result of either a physical or psychological problem.
Physical causes:
Hormone imballance, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, side effects from certain medicines, or maybe a medical condition, for example: heart desease, diabetes or a neurological disorder, such as Multiple Sclerosis.
Psychological causes:
Stress, anxiety (in particular, concern about size or performance), depression, guilt, or memories (often repressed) of sexual trauma.
